A Grandmother's Tribe is a for-purpose social enterprise documentary produced and distributed by Borderless Productions. We want the purpose of the film to provide a direct voice for African grandmothers dealing with the massive task of raising the next generation. At the same time, we want the business of filmmaking to benefit the grandmothers, through grassroot solutions in Africa.
So we launched the Take action initiative along with our May 2008 DVD release so you can personally take action to help grandmothers.
With every DVD purchased, you will receive a copy of the 8-page booklet which outlines how the Take action initiative works. Its simple - here's how it works:
1. You obtain your copy of the DVD and host a private fundraiser screening with friends, family or your local community.
3. Watch the DVD and conduct a discussion with the help of the FAQs in this 'Take Action Event Guide'.
4. Raise funds as a group to support the grandmothers.
5. Send the money to the Stephen Lewis Foundation on behalf of 'A Grandmother's Tribe' for contribution to the "grassroots grandmother projects" in Sub-Saharan Africa.
ALL net proceeds raised through special fundraiser screenings this Take action initiative as well as a percentage of the proceeds from the DVD sales will be directed to the grandmothers of Sub-Saharan Africa. We have designated the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) as the primary beneficiary of all funds you and we raise. The SLF work with hundreds of grandmother groups of Sub-Saharan Africa and we believe that, through them, we have the best chance of effecting positive change for the grandmothers themselves.
Background
The philosophy of Borderless Productions is "creating positive change one film at a time". To take another step in making that a reality, Borderless Productions has recently established a dedicated entity, Borderless Foundation, to enable a 'giving back' process associated with the films they produce.
In particular, Borderless Productions is committed to a series of films that will focus on the role and social impact of grandmothers in cultures around the globe. A Grandmother's Tribe (Africa) is the first and perhaps the most heroic story of grandmothers in the world today. We expect to find many more hidden and remarkable grandmother stories to profile.
Foundation's Mission
By dedicating a percentage of film proceeds (broadcast sales, licence fees and distribution), along with direct donor contributions, Borderless Foundation will, in turn, partner and/or support grassroots organizations who are committed to directly improving the life condition of the regions profiled in the documentaries.
Borderless Productions Foundation is committed to the combined goal of...
1. expanding public awareness, through informed and compassionate film-making.
2. catalyzing global engagement by linking individual intentions to "make a difference" with "for-purpose" organizations who are committed to maximizing grassroots care and support.
